We went to Peru for 7 days to trek the Inca Trail. I could go on and on about the amazing scenery (nobody has mountains like the Andes), the Inca ruins we saw, the challenge of walking up over a thousand steps on the second day, with Matt waiting at the end with a shot of pisco for us all (thanks mate, when you passed me mine I think I inhaled it, along with my breath!) the yelling in the tents at the end of the day whilst playing asshole and the overall amazing feeling we all had when we finally got to Machu Picchu, after waking up at 3am to wait at the checkpoint in the freezing cold and hiking that final section. What a trip!
We went with a tour company called G Adventures- the most amazing people. Porters carried your bags (this made me feel incredibly bad that I only carried my daypack, whilst they marched past you carrying 20kg of stuff on their backs. By the time we got to our campsite each day, the porters had set up the tents, put your bags beside them, made a cup of hot coco tea for you and had some hot water for you to wash with- amazing! For our last day, the chef even made us a cake- he cooked it over a gas heater in a pot. The jelly on top of it was done by placing a pot of jelly in the freezing cold stream to set- incredible! Our guides were equally as good- fun crew with endless knowledge of the Andes and the Incas- I was so impressed.
